Downstairs Dreary

These pictures show what the house was like inside when we moved in.  Though basically clean and liveable and while it was not garish, it was kind of dreary in some of the downstairs rooms.  I actually quite like the rose wallpaper in the living room (it didn't show very well in the picture)  but it clashed terribly with my furniture and it had to be painted.  The downstairs bath was also only about 5 years old and very nicely done.

This is the living room which is the first room you enter coming in the front door.  I have plans to build a radiator cover/window seat in the bay to take advantage of the nice space there.

This room was really dingy.  It is the room I would later change into a home office for my massage practice.

Where you see the patch of different wall paper there was a row of about a hundred  nail holes that I had to patch after the wallpaper was stripped.

The stairs are practically right in front of the door so any cold air goes right up.  If there was enough room I'd add a double entrance but I can't see how it would be feasible in a manner that would retain the character of the house.

Preparing to strip wall paper...and ceiling paper.  I added french doors to seperate this room from the front door.

The door nearest, as you view the pictures, is a closet (under the stairs).  The other door is for the bathroom which was done about 5 years before I moved in.
